This community is the first community in India. (Tamil Nadu) Madurai at Anna Nagar in the year 1977. It was by the grace of God and with the help of Our Lady of Velankkanni, two of our sisters namely Mother Alberta Sango and Sr. Enrica Mendoza managed to get a place with much difficulty with the help of Fr. Jesudass the procurator of Madurai Archdiocese. The late Archbishop of Madurai Most Rev. Fr. Justin Diraviam was kind enough to accept them in the diocese and with fervent prayers and perseverance they were able to buy a newly built house where the convent resides till now. On the auspicious day of blessing the house, two of our Indian sisters namely Sr. Lucy Kallarackal and Sr. Alfonsa Thekkumattam were also present. Sr. Gloria and Sr. Fredrick Mary were in charge of the community each for a few months until the superior was appointed canonically. In the year 1980 Sr. Lucy Kllarackal was the first Superior and under her leadership and guidance, the community flourished in different aspects. The sisters were much interested in the pastoral activities of the parish such as teaching, visiting the families, and running the Mother and child welfare program, dispensary in Karupayurani. Our sister’s presences were liked by the people of our parish very much due to their active involvement. The sisters, gradually felt the need of educating the children of this area and they began the nursery school. The nusery school was primarily started in the year 1978 with 10 children in the parish campus in a small shed. Then it was shifted to one of the rooms at the convent and started the nursery school till 1984. In course of time the number of the children started increasing and so the sisters felt the need of upgrading the nursery into elementary and in the log run it bloomed as High School and Higher Secondary at Vandiyur Campus. The sisters apart from teaching they also actively involved in the parish ministry such as choir, Catechizing the children and visiting the families. By visiting the families the sisters are able to inclulcate the family values according to their need basis.
